WORLD TOURISM DAY 2022 ( RETHINKING TOURISM )

With the Theme of “Rethinking Tourism” MSI Students Organized an Event on Tuesday 27th of September 2022 at MSI Auditorium to Discuss the Areas Related to the Hospitality Industry and its Potentials to Rebuild the Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka

The Management and Science University, Management and Science Institute, executives, social startups, influencers, business policymakers, business professionals, and government are uniting for one purpose: to cultivate a new generation of sociocultural impact leaders who can drive positive changes. In collaboration with the Western Province Tourist Board, MSU and MSI celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27, 2022, with the theme “Rethinking Tourism” in compliance with SDG 2022. The primary purpose of this event is to raise community awareness of sustainable tourism regeneration, particularly considering Sri Lanka’s global economic situation. This event consisted of three separate areas.

Phase one mainly focused on school children and incorporating their ideas into rebuilding Sri Lanka’s tourism industry for cultivating the SDG culture and values. Thus, a school poster competition was organised for selected Western Province schools, with two main categories for both advanced and ordinary level students.

All the school children who participated in this competition developed ideas using sustainable approaches to rebuild the nation through green tourism. Here, the selection process was done by a group of respected panels: The director of Lanka Daimaru Group, Mr Anura Pradeep Kumara, TV presenter, media personnel Mr Kavinga Perera and Journalist, printed media personnel in Dinamina newspaper, Mr Mahinda Aluthgedara.

As a small island, Sri Lanka has simple opportunities to promote cycling tourism, which would be an excellent long-term solution to the country’s current economic crisis.

The closing event took place in the MSU/MSI Main Auditorium. At the main event, the university hosted a panel discussion on the new trends and potential of the tourism industry, which focused on rebuilding the nation through tourism and hospitality events.
